SPORTS & LEISURE IN SCOTLAND

As a vacation destination Scotland seems to appear on most people's "must go sometime" list. The country's reputation for its scenery and warmth of welcome, its history and traditions act as a magnet to visitors from all over the world.

Over recent years it has also developed a reputation for activity led holidays. A recent Scottish Enterprise report ranks Scotland third equal along with New Zealand as being the best for activity holidays. France was first, Austria second.

The study shows that visitors taking part in these holidays - which include golf, walking, fishing and skiing - spend more than £80m per year.

It is no wonder then that more and more companies and organisations are investing considerable amounts of capital in catering for this growing number of visitors.

For both the spectator and the participant the choice is almost endless; from the obvious like football and rugby, to the more obscure such as windsurfing and bird watching. So whether you want to relax watching a game of cricket or climb some of the most challenging mountains in the world, Scotland has something to offer.
